Swimming in Tempe Town Toilet Causes Huge Traffic Jams

The idiots in Tempe government who brought the Ironman Arizona Triathlon to Tempe Town Toilet where the Ironman idiots will swim in Tempt Town Toilet also brought some huge traffic jams to Tempe.

The bus service is aslo f*cked up royal. Because the 66, 72, and 81 bus lines have huge detours I had to walk to get from Scottsdale to Tempe today.

Last not only did the idiots in the City of Tempe bring this stupid Ironman event here they PAID them with our money to come here and cause traffic jaims. We have been screwed twice by Tempe.

Road work, events promise challenges for drivers

Major road work, a popular car show and several sporting events could keep Valley drivers in gridlock this weekend.

Tempe will face the largest number of traffic nightmares as the Ironman Arizona Triathlon descends on the city today.

More than 25,000 athletes, spectators and volunteers are expected to attend the event.

"It's like a college football-type atmosphere," said Tempe Police spokesman Sgt. Dan Masters.

Nine streets will be closed and more will be restricted. The bulk of the triathlon occurs in the area around Tempe Town Lake, with running events going north of the lake and biking events traveling along Rio Salado Parkway and McClintock and McKellips roads.

Tempe police will use 43 police officers for the event, most working on traffic control. Since the athletes have until midnight to finish, officers from the state Department of Public Safety will augment the Tempe force after 4:30 p.m. to keep the event safe for the competitors once the sun goes down.

"Just plan some extra time for travel and parking," Masters said. "Make sure to pay special attention to the competitors and to pedestrians near the course," he urged drivers.

In downtown Phoenix, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Phoenix Suns are both hosting games tonight.

There could be as many as 30,000 cars in the downtown area for the two sporting events, which both start about 7 p.m.

In addition, the Cruise on Central, one of the biggest gatherings of car enthusiasts in the Valley, takes place this afternoon and evening at Park Central Mall, at Central Avenue and Earll Drive.

Weekend closures to parts of Interstate 10 and Interstate 17 will cause further headaches for those traveling to these events.

For Ahwatukee residents going to either event, westbound I-10is closed between Elliot and Baseline roads until 5 a.m. Monday for rubberized-asphalt paving. Plan to detour by using eastbound Loop 202 to Loop 101, then back to I-10.

Residents in the northwest Valley trying to get downtown will be hampered by the closure of southbound Interstate 17 between Thomas Road and 19th Avenue. Drivers are advised to exit I-17 well ahead of Thomas Road and use side streets to get into downtown Phoenix. The freeway lanes reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

Rubberized paving will also close the Agua Fria Freeway, Loop 101, southbound between Bell and Thunderbird roads until 5 a.m. Monday.
